Mira, an 8 year-old from Miller Place, wished to be a fashion model in LA Fashion Week.
Mira was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect as a baby. Shortly before turning one Mira underwent open heart surgery. When Mira found out she received a wish she knew exactly what to wish for.
This past March Mira’s wish was granted when she traveled to Los Angeles to undergo a transformation fit for an A-list model.
She loves fashion and design, and was excited to experience a runway firsthand. Make-A-Wish Suffolk County along with Art Hearts Fashion helped make Mira’s wish come true. Mira was “blown away” by her transformation before she hit the runway. She had her hair and makeup professionally done and modeled a new dress. Mira didn’t let her nerves get the best of her when she made her runway debut.
Mira said she wishes her younger brother, Patrick, was there to watch. She was only three when Patrick was also born with a congenital heart defect. He passed away two days before he would have been 11 months old.
Mira was interviewed by the Today Show in April where she told reporters about her once in a lifetime experience. “I felt like a shooting star and a shooting star doesn’t happen very often, it was like a special moment,” Mira said when asked about her wish.
