The evening honored two special members of the Make-A-Wish family, Jeff and Debbie Horn, in recognition of their continued years of service and dedication to the Make-A-Wish mission. It was also a special night for the recipients of the Chapter’s first ever Leadership Awards presentation. Estee Lauder Companies, Inc. received the “Corporate Leadership Award” for their outstanding contributions and consistent support of the Chapter for nearly 20 years. Dowling College was given the “Community Partnership Award” for their commitment and involvement of the faculty and students in supporting our mission for over a decade. Stony Brook Children’s Hospital was honored with the “Medical Visionary Award” for their meritorious leadership in advanced and innovative pediatric specialty care. Leaders from each organization were there to receive their honors.
The highlight of the evening came when Karine Hollander, President & CEO, invited 12 year old Kyle, from East Islip, to the stage to talk about the importance of anticipating a wish. Kyle was still waiting for his wish to meet his favorite Major League Lacrosse team, the Denver Outlaws, to be granted. To his surprise and to the surprise of the hundreds of guests, Karine announced that Kyle would leave the following week to go to Colorado and experience his wish come true! The surprise was enhanced by the arrival of the Stony Brook Cheerleading team and the East Islip High School marching band playing “Don’t Stop Believin’” as they entered the dining room.
Special thanks goes to the following friends of Make-A-Wish Suffolk County, NY for donating their time and talent to the evening: our emcee Paul Anthony of the L.I. Comedy Group and 97.5 WALK FM, Carol Serapiglia of Serapiglia Photography, the East Islip High School Marching Band, the Stony Brook Cheerleaders and Dancers (and Wolfie!), and J. Merullo Imports for donating 80 centerpieces consisting of over 500 exquisite hydrangeas which decorated our dinner tables and created a gorgeous ambiance in the room. We are honored to work with all of you!
