Jessie wished to be a pirate and got the swashbuckling treatment at the 2013 Long Island Maritime Museum’s annual Pirate Festival!
Jessie, five years old from Medford, has acute lymphoblastic leukemia and wished to be a pirate!
On June 15, he and his family attended the Long Island Maritime Museum’s annual Pirate Festival in Sayville where Jessie spent the day with various groups of authentic, swashbuckling Long Island pirates who helped him transform into a pirate himself! He wore a pirate’s outfit, searched for buried treasure, and joined the pirates in a sing-song celebration where they poured jewels into Jessie’s hat and saluted him.
Jessie was also presented with a treasure chest full of goodies and his very own pirate play-ship for his backyard so that he can live everyday like a pirate at home! The pirates presented Jessie with his official eye patch and “branded” him an official Pirate!
“Welcome Jessie to the pirate brotherhood!” they shouted.
As the festival came to a close, Jessie took a ride around the Great South Bay on a sailboat with his family. It was the perfect end to an adventurous day!
